The point d'ironie originated during a discussion between agnès b., Christian Boltanski and Hans-Ulrich Obrist. A hybrid periodical - half magazine, half poster. Invented by the French writer Alcanter de Brahm at the end of the 19th century, the point d'ironie is a punctuation mark, which can be used at the end of sentences to indicate to the reader the ironic phrases in the text.
Around 6 times per year, agnès b. and the curator Hans-Ulrich Obrist give carte blanche to an artist, architect, filmmaker, musician photographer, writer… to appropriate the space of the paper.
100,000 copies are available free of charge around the world (in bookshops, museums, galleries, schools, cafés, etc.), as well as in all of the agnès b. locations all over the world.
The point d'ironie is presented at the Tokyo Art Book Fair, the largest annual arts publishing fair in Asia. Now in it’s third year, the fair gathers together arts publishers, gallery presses and self publishing artists from Japan and abroad.
